Website design on no budget

The construction of my website and this blog has been an absorbing, frustrating but interesting journey. I have been reading threads and commentary online of late, and it seems that I am not the only photographer out there who is befuddled by the options. A good example is this thread on flickr and this post by Bert Stephani.

I promised to put together my thoughts and experiences so that others out there could save some of the downtime that I had. You may or may not agree with my approach, but hey – it’s a free world!

I’ll break this into a few posts and deal with each one in turn, but here’s list of topics that I plan to cover:

  • Design considerations
  • Buy or Build?
  • The recipe for a basic but professional website
  • HTML and CSS basics
  • Pitfalls in web design
  • Making your life easier with software
  • Integrating a blog
  • Search Engine Optimisation

I know that list looks kind of scary, but if you are half way smart, have the time and the passion there is not reason why you can’t build a great website.

I’ll post on each of the above topics as I go.

Enjoy!
