Out in the Street

Last night I finally stepped out into the wide world for a spot of street photography. In the pleasant company of Nick and Marcus, I wandered my home town, exploring back alleys and gritty urban city-scapes. Fortunately for us the weather cleared after a day of solid rain…

I’m not sureĀ  if it was the rain or the fact that this was my first street shoot, but I felt a bit like a fish out of water. When I got home, I was pleasantly surprised by the harvest, but I think I can do better. Certainly, this work is nowhere near as good as the street work by my fellow shooters like Ahmad and Enrico.

But hey – a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – onwards and upwards!

Shane: Street photography can be really fun. Especially if you goto areas you are totally unfamiliar with, or areas that can change without notice. Be away from there for awhile, and the whole place sorta changes.

Of course, having a bit of company also helps (sometimes) :)

I had a blast just shooting randomly around the streets of asia (Hong Kong and Bangkok in particular).

Sometimes the best shots are the ones we didn’t even know how we got. And others that turn out better than expected and vice versa.

Perhaps we could do another Melbourne Strobist Street Walk in the near future, as there seemed to be a bit of enthusiasm about it after the one I did with Enrico and others.

I agree will, it’s a little like a lucky dip. But I set out with the intention of getting some street portraits, and to be frank, chickened out. I need to watch that street portrait video from Zack Arias again…
